Artist: Mike Oldfield
Regarded by many of his fans as his best work, and it's not hard to hear why. Ommadawn manages to be more complex than Tubular Bells but at the same time more laid back. Mike superb guitarwork writhes over ambient vocals and flutes, the music changing direction completely in the space of a few seconds. Part 2 begins with a languid piece composed of many many overlayed tracks, mostly guitars, which it must have taken ages to record and assemble.
The final track is a whimsical singalong with Mike and some children about the joy of riding horses. No, really. But don't let that put you off.
