Comments

Until Medulla was released, this was widely regarded as the least accessible of Björk's albums and I've occasionally seen it suggested that it's not the best one to use to try to convert non-fans. From personal experience I disagree - Homogenic was the first Björk album I bought (on the strength of "Hunter" which I'd heard on X Files: the Album) and I was hooked.

Homogenic is certainly a quirky, not to mention ground-breaking album. "Jòga", for instance, combines violins with harsh industrial sounds to great effect. The traditional instruments versus harsh sounds theme is duplicated throughout the album to varying degrees, together with Björk's crazy lyrics, until we reach the peacefully wistful "All is Full of Love", which has an equally gorgeous music video (track it down!).

This is still absolutely my favourite Björk album.
