Comments

The fourth and final installment in the Moods series brings back semi-regulars Mike Oldfield, Yanni and Enigma (the latter with "Gravity of Love" from the fourth Enigma album - freshly released when Moods 4 came out). As well, we get Michelle Tumes (from Moods 3) and Miriam Stockley who provided the vocals for Adiemus on Moods 1. notibly introduced are Loreena McKennitt (with "The Mummers' Dance", a popular track for movie previews), and Sinéad O'Connor (with the soulful "Streets of London").

Moods 4 continues the series trend towards chill-out with artists like George Michael and M People who aren't generally regarded as New Agey. I think this enriches the series rather than devaluing it. Despite the first couple of albums containing almost exclusively music that could be classed as New Age or World, the series had the potential to evolve into something more general.

So that's the Mood series. It introduced me to a number of artists I'd never heard before and prompted me to buy their albums, steered me gently towards some of the more interesting chill-out artists, but ultimately was cancelled just as it was getting really good.
